As much as I might logically argue that the whole Shuttle program was a boondoggle, stupid and use it as a shinning example of what not to do with your project I can’t lie; My heart races a little bit every time I see images like these ones from Dan Winters book about the last launch of Atlantis.
UDPATE: I have my copy of the book now, it’s beautiful.
